Lewis Eckersley

Principal of Atherton International School

It is with great pleasure that I warmly welcome you and your family to Atherton International School (AIS) where we believe in the transformative power of education for a global future. I am very proud to be the Principal of this dynamic, international school. Our structured educational system offers passionate teachers and a multicultural environment for your child.

Our commitment begins early, with a comprehensive international curriculum that nurtures young minds from childhood through to secondary education. We offer systematic stages all the way up to Year 13, delivering internationally accredited programs including the IEYC, IPC, IMYC, IGCSE, AS-level, and A-level curriculum. Beyond imparting knowledge, we emphasize the development of essential skills crucial for tomorrow’s challenges.

Our priority is to provide a safe, secure and engaging learning environment – one that is inclusive, ambitious and challenging. Our amazing students come from all corners of the world, and they thrive as active contributors to our rich, vibrant and diverse school community. We seek to inspire our students to be individuals adaptable to an ever-changing globalized world and to enjoy learning with self-confidence, motivation, and a drive to succeed.

At AIS, we intertwine global education with the cultivation of our key personal goals empowering our students to navigate complexities with integrity, kindness, and confidence. We envision a world where our graduates, equipped with academic excellence and human compassion, make a positive impact on the world around them. We are also determined to foster global citizenship through academic, cultural, and leadership opportunities. We are here to guarantee that our young students are ready and equipped for the wider world.

I want to emphasize the importance of international accreditation for AIS. Accreditation ensures that we adhere to global standards of excellence in education, curriculum development, and student achievement.

It validates our commitment to continuous improvement and assures you that your children are receiving a high-quality education that prepares them for success both locally and globally. Accreditation also enhances opportunities for our students by providing recognition of their academic accomplishments and facilitating smooth transitions between schools worldwide. Rest assured, at AIS, we are dedicated to maintaining these standards and ensuring that every student receives the best possible educational experience.

With dedicated staff focused on each student’s holistic growth—academically, socially, and emotionally—we aim to create a supportive environment where every individual feels valued and secure. Together, we strive to prepare Athertonians to excel in the 21st century, embracing challenges with resilience and serving their communities with purpose.

Please feel free to visit us at any time and see our wonderful school for yourself. We would be delighted to meet you and welcome you into the Atherton International School.

"Our teachers are confident and help us to improve. We learn many different and interesting subjects well because the teachers explain them amazingly. The school has many enjoyable and fun activities. We also have some field trips where we get to adventure and explore."

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Atherton International School (AIS)!

We know that relocation and an overseas assignment can be exciting. We also know

it can be stressful and a little scary. AIS is here to help and to give you confidence in

moving your child to a new school in a new country, on the beautiful island of Geoje.

AIS is a unique, small school of between 100 and 150 students from

nursery to age 18, which provides a warm welcome to students and their families.

Class sizes are on average around 12-15 students.

AIS is an inclusive, international learning community with over 18 different nationalities represented amongst the students and faculty. We provide an education which promotes academic achievement, social responsibility and global awareness.

Our academic program in Early Years, Primary and Middle School is based on the British National Curriculum, delivered through the International Early Years (iEYC), Primary (iPC) and Middle Years (iMYC) thematic approach.

Our High School students follow the world famous Cambridge International Education IGCSE and A Level programs, which prepare students for access to the top universities around the world.

We recognise that some students will choose to study in the US and therefore we can also fully prepare them to access US universities.

Our secondary students work towards the William Pike Challenge Award and the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to develop social awareness and personal resilience.

AIS students and teachers take pride in their school. We are a passionate learning community. They are confident learners who are willing to challenge themselves to achieve their best; they are resilient and determined to succeed.
