Life At AIS

AIS After School Activities

General Information
At AIS we offer a wide range of after school activities for our students Year 1 and upwards each term.  We encourage students to participate in the activities and clubs of interest, as we believe that engagement in co-curricular activities is an important part of the overall school experience.  The activities run from Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and each student has an opportunity to participate in any number of them (but sign up fast as spots may be limited!)

The activities are run by our amazing staff, who are happy to offer activities they are interested in and have a passion for.  As a result, the activities offered may be different from one semester to the next.  This provides students with a fantastic opportunity to try different things over the course of the year.  We have offered activities as diverse as cooking club, football, choir, orchestra, science club, puzzles & games club, yoga, basketball, hiking, e-sports, newspaper club, and many more!

We welcome parent-run ASA's too. Previous parent ASA's have included French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, athletics and ball games. Teachers cannot run ASA's on Wednesdays as this is the time they are deeply involved in collaborative learning and school development however we welcome parents to fill the spot.

Sign-Up & Enrolment
Students will be asked to sign-up for activities three times a year: at the beginning of term one (August or September);  the end of term one/beginning of term two (December/January); and before spring break.  At each sign-up period, students will be asked to select activities of interest.  Generally, enrolment is completed on a first-come-first-serve basis as many activities do fill up quickly due to high demand. All interested students will be given one activity before students are given a second.  If a student's first choice is full, the second choice is looked at. It is possible for students to take part in up to 4 activities per week (1 per day offered), but due to the high demand for activities this is very unlikely.  Unfortunately it will be the case that some students will have 1 or 2 activities and others will have 3 or 4.  This ultimately comes down to demand per club and the desire to honour preferences in a fair and objective way.

*Students arriving at the school after the sign-up period will of course be given the chance to join any activities with available spots.

At each sign-up period, parents will be given a full list of available activities with their descriptions, age restrictions and necessary equipment (if any).

Sign-Up & Have Fun
The most important thing for us is that students are able to take full advantage of the activities on offer and that they fully enjoy their time here at AIS. Signing up for various clubs can encourage further development of creative skills, athletic skills and abilities, or even enhance their academic growth!  Regardless of what kind of club a student chooses, the experience is almost certain to improve self-confidence and their willingness to try new things.  Perhaps most importantly though, students in these activities are guaranteed to have fun!
